Treasury and House Oversight Launch Explosive Probes Into Tim Walz’s Mishandling of $1 Billion Food-Aid Fraud — Criminal Referrals Now on the Table

Washington finally decided enough is enough — and the hammer is coming down hard on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. On Monday, both the U.S. Treasury Department and the House Oversight Committee announced major investigations into Walz’s role in what they’re calling a “massive fraud” scheme involving Somali immigrants who siphoned off more than $1 billion in taxpayer money. Yes, billion — with a “B.” All while children the program was supposed to feed were left behind. Outstanding leadership, Governor.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) was crystal clear:
His committee will be digging into Walz’s failure to safeguard taxpayer dollars.
And let’s be honest — failure is putting it mildly.

Comer didn’t mince words: Walz was warned about the fraud, did nothing, and whistleblowers who tried to expose the mess “faced retaliation.” As a result, criminals — including Somali terrorists — walked off with nearly a billion dollars. But sure, let’s pretend the problem is Trump saying mean things.

As chairman of the powerful GOP-led panel, Comer can issue subpoenas and refer potential crimes to the Department of Justice, which has already convicted 59 fraudsters linked to the Feeding Our Future scheme. AP

As chairman, Comer has the authority to issue subpoenas and even refer crimes to the DOJ for prosecution. Meanwhile, the DOJ has already convicted 59 fraudsters, and the count keeps rising.

Then came Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who all but torched the governor on X, saying he ordered investigators to look into how the “feckless mismanagement of the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz” let taxpayer money flow into the hands of al-Shabab terrorists. Just phenomenal stewardship from the Biden-Walz crew — giving a terrorist organization a pandemic stimulus package.

The scale of the fraud — more than $1 billion stolen from a COVID-era food relief program — is shocking enough. The new twist? Evidence that some of the stolen money was funneled back to al-Shabab. That’s right: taxpayer-funded terrorism. And yet Walz still has the nerve to go on TV and lecture President Trump.

House Republicans have been tracking this disaster for months. Last year, the House Education and Workforce Committee subpoenaed Walz for records — though nobody seems to know if he bothered to hand anything over.

The scandal itself — dubbed the Feeding Our Future fraud — involved 78 scammers who drained Minnesota’s social services departments under the guise of feeding schoolchildren. Prosecutors say the plot was “depraved and brazen,” with funds being blown on fancy new cars, overseas real estate in places like Turkey and Kenya, and lifestyles that would make a Hollywood agent blush.

The FBI raided the fake nonprofit in early 2022, and it collapsed soon after. But by then, millions had already been signed off by state agencies and forwarded to federal departments like the USDA.

A whistleblower account on X — claiming to represent 500 Minnesota Department of Human Services employees — slammed Walz as “100% responsible.” According to them, Walz ignored early warnings, retaliated against whistleblowers, used threats and repression to silence concerns, and tried to discredit fraud reports. That account disappeared from X shortly after — imagine that.

And it gets worse. Internal audits found that Walz’s administration weakened safeguards and created “opportunities for fraud,” with “inadequate oversight” throughout the period the fake program was being funded.

President Trump called Minnesota “a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity” after the latest details emerged — and honestly, who can argue with him?

But instead of owning up to his failures, Walz did what Democrats always do: attack Trump. In interviews this week, he smugly claimed there’s a “big difference between fraud and corruption,” and implied Trump would know more about corruption. Bold strategy for a governor whose state just funneled taxpayer cash to terrorists.

Walz admitted he was aware of suspicious activity from the nonprofit back in November 2020. He later claimed he tried to stop the fraud in April 2021, blaming a judge for supposedly forcing him to continue the payments. That judge — Ramsey County District Judge John Guthmann — fired back, making it clear no such court order existed. The payments were “made voluntarily.”

Walz later honored a fraudster from another nonprofit linked to the scheme with an “Outstanding Refugee Award” in July 2021. AP

So now, Walz is under investigation from both Congress and the Treasury. Subpoenas, criminal referrals, and a national spotlight are all on the table. And in the end, accountability — long overdue — is finally catching up.

With real oversight, real consequences, and real leadership returning to Washington, the truth is coming to light. And that’s always a win for the American people.
