The Trump administration has moved to suspend federal funding for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), citing allegations of fraud, financial mismanagement, and failures in oversight as a federal investigation unfolds.
According to a letter obtained by Fox News Digital, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is immediately halting funding to the agency while HUD’s inspector general investigates potential misconduct involving LAHSA and its leadership.
The agency, which plays a central role in coordinating homelessness programs and managing billions of dollars in spending throughout Los Angeles, is now under scrutiny for what federal officials described as serious concerns regarding its operations. The letter reportedly outlined allegations including conflicts of interest, financial mismanagement, fraud, inadequate oversight, and broader accountability failures.
HUD is a member of the White House fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance, and officials indicated that suspending funding was necessary while investigators examine the allegations.
The letter was addressed to LAHSA Board Chair Wendy Greuel and CEO Gita O’Neill. The agency has already faced increasing criticism and calls for reform, including efforts by city and county officials to assume greater control over its operations.
