Trump Announces His Pick to Replace Marjorie Taylor Greene

President Donald Trump officially weighed in on the race to replace former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, endorsing Republican candidate Clay Fuller on Wednesday evening to represent Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. And in a crowded field of 21 candidates, Trump just made it very clear who he thinks should rise to the top.

Fuller, an Air National Guard officer and the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit district attorney, is running to fill Greene’s deep-red northwestern Georgia seat. He previously placed fourth in the 2020 Republican primary, the same race in which Greene was first elected amid another crowded GOP lineup.

Trump announced the endorsement on Truth Social, writing that Fuller is “strongly supported by the most Highly Respected MAGA Warriors in Georgia, and many Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.”

“Clay Fuller has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Georgia’s 14th Congressional District – HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!” Trump added.

Fuller quickly responded, making it clear he understood the weight of the moment — and the opportunity.

“This is the honor of a lifetime. I will not let you or Georgia’s 14th District down,” Fuller wrote on X. “Our work to put America first is just getting started!”

Voters in Georgia’s 14th District will choose Greene’s successor in a special election scheduled for March 10. If no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote, the race will head to an April 7 runoff between the top two finishers. There will be no primary election to narrow the field beforehand, which explains why Republicans are suddenly doing math again.

Trump’s endorsement comes as some GOP leaders worry that the fractured Republican field could allow a Democrat to sneak into the runoff. Democratic candidate Shawn Harris, who lost to Greene by roughly 30 points in 2024, is once again running for the seat.

The outcome could have immediate consequences in Washington. House Speaker Mike Johnson currently holds a razor-thin two-vote majority, meaning Republicans can afford to lose only one member on party-line votes. In other words, this Georgia race matters — a lot.

Greene resigned from Congress in January following a public falling out with Trump after years as one of his most outspoken allies. She has not endorsed any candidate in the race.

Other Republicans running for the seat include Georgia State Sen. Colton Moore, former FEMA official Star Black, and 14th District GOP chairman Jim Tully.

With Trump stepping in early and decisively, Republicans now have a clear front-runner and a rallying point. In a district built for conservative leadership, the message is simple: unity wins elections — and Trump is making sure Georgia’s 14th stays red.
