Trump Defies 'Lawfare': Makes Payment in Carroll Case While Vowing to Fight On

In a move that underscores the relentless legal assault against him, President Donald J. Trump has processed a payment of over $5.6 million to E. Jean Carroll. This action follows the Supreme Court's decision not to review his appeal in the initial 2023 sexual abuse and defamation case, yet it marks not an end, but another chapter in a protracted battle Trump and his supporters decry as politically motivated lawfare.

Court records released on Tuesday confirm the sum of $5.625 million, which includes accrued interest, was disbursed to Carroll on July 9th. These funds had been held in the court's registry investment system, a standard procedure while Trump vigorously pursued his appeals. Despite his legal team's efforts to keep the money in escrow pending further review, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan rejected the request, ordering the immediate release of the funds.

While Carroll's legal team celebrated the payout, stating "she has received the damages payment the jury awarded her," President Trump has consistently and vehemently denied the allegations. He has maintained that the entire legal saga is a politically driven witch hunt designed to interfere with his presidential campaign and delegitimize his America First movement.

The root of this particular case goes back to Carroll's claims of an incident in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s. In May 2023, a federal jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million, a figure that climbed to over $5.6 million with interest during the appeal process. However, for President Trump, this has always been more than a legal dispute; it's a front in the ongoing war against the weaponization of the justice system.

Following the Supreme Court's decision to decline review last month, President Trump made his position unequivocally clear, taking to Truth Social to declare, "Surprisingly, the Supreme Court declined to "review" a Fake Case brought against me by a woman I never met. I will continue the fight against this Weaponization and Lawfare Case." This statement encapsulates the sentiment shared by millions of Americans who view these legal maneuvers as a transparent attempt to sideline a leading political figure.

It's crucial to remember that this payment addresses only one facet of the legal challenges facing President Trump. He and Carroll remain locked in a separate, more substantial lawsuit. In January 2024, another federal jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll a staggering $83.3 million, finding he defamed her through statements made while he was President in 2019. This massive award is also under appeal, and President Trump is expected to pursue Supreme Court review for this judgment as well, ensuring that the legal battles will continue.

This ongoing spectacle serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which political opponents and entrenched institutions will go to undermine and silence those who challenge the status quo. President Trump's continued resolve to fight these cases, despite the financial and reputational toll, reflects a broader commitment to exposing the politicization of justice and upholding the principles of fairness and due process for all Americans, especially when facing a system seemingly bent on targeting America First patriots.
