President Donald Trump on Thursday defended War Secretary Pete Hegseth after a Washington Post report alleged the two had clashed over concerns about U.S. munitions shortages related to operations against Iran.

In a Truth Social post, Trump dismissed the story as “false and completely unfounded rumors.” He said he is “extremely happy” with Hegseth’s performance and accused the newspaper of publishing a fabricated account even after being told it was inaccurate.

“Pete is highly respected within the Military, and has made tremendous improvements,” Trump wrote, citing the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, increased military recruitment, and recent U.S. military operations as evidence of Hegseth’s leadership.

Trump also defended the administration’s military actions against Venezuela and Iran, describing the operations as successful, and labeled The Washington Post’s reporting “treasonous.”

The White House and Pentagon have denied the report. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it “fake news” and reiterated that Trump has full confidence in Hegseth.
