President Donald Trump is taking action as the airport chaos continues, announcing that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will begin assisting TSA officers nationwide starting Monday. Because when Washington stalls, someone has to step in.
The move comes as the funding standoff over the Department of Homeland Security drags on, leaving TSA agents working for over a month without pay. Despite being classified as essential workers, many officers are understandably reaching a breaking point—leading to staffing shortages, sick calls, and long security lines across the country.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, praising TSA agents for staying on the job while placing blame squarely on Democrats for holding up funding. He warned that even if ICE performs effectively, critics on the left will still find a way to complain. “They will do a fantastic job,” Trump said, adding that border enforcement veteran Tom Homan will oversee the effort.

And the timing couldn’t be more critical.
Airports in major cities like Houston, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Philadelphia have been hit especially hard, with wait times reportedly stretching beyond three hours in some cases. Meanwhile, more than 400 TSA employees have already quit since the shutdown began, highlighting just how serious the situation has become.
Trump had previously floated the idea of deploying ICE agents, calling on Democrats to “immediately” approve DHS funding. With no agreement reached, that proposal is now becoming reality.
The goal is straightforward: restore order, reduce wait times, and reinforce security at a moment when both are under strain. ICE agents stepping in would provide immediate manpower, helping stabilize operations while the political fight continues in Washington.

Even outside government, the situation is drawing attention. Elon Musk recently offered to personally cover TSA salaries during the impasse, underscoring just how disruptive the shutdown has become for everyday Americans trying to travel.
At its core, this is about keeping the country moving and secure. With airports overwhelmed and frontline workers stretched thin, decisive action is no longer optional—it’s necessary.
And if ICE’s deployment helps get things back on track, it could be a clear example of leadership stepping up when it matters most.
