Trump Draws a Hard Line With ‘Final’ 25% Tariff on Iran’s Business Partners

President Donald Trump made it crystal clear this week that doing business with the Iranian regime now comes with a very real price tag. In a Truth Social post that left little room for interpretation—or negotiation—Trump announced an immediate and “final” trade order imposing a 25% tariff on all U.S. trade with any country that continues doing business with Iran.

“Effective immediately,” Trump wrote, emphasizing that the order is “final and conclusive.” Short, direct, and unmistakable—classic Trump. No committees, no endless talking points, no pretending the regime in Tehran is just misunderstood.

The announcement comes as Iran enters its fifteenth straight day of deadly protests, with hundreds reportedly killed since demonstrations erupted late last month. According to the Human Rights Activist News Agency, 544 deaths have been confirmed so far, with dozens more still under review. While the regime tightens its grip, the streets continue to boil.

Trump’s tariff move could have major implications for countries that maintain economic ties with Iran, including China, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia. The message is simple: if you want access to the American market, you don’t get to bankroll a regime cracking down on its own people. Imagine that—accountability in foreign policy.

At the same time, the U.S. State Department urged American citizens in Iran to consider leaving the country, warning of internet shutdowns, transportation disruptions, and escalating violence. Officials advised avoiding demonstrations, keeping a low profile, and remaining alert as protests intensify and security measures expand across the country.

The State Department also confirmed widespread communication blackouts, road closures, and flight cancellations, with several airlines suspending service until at least mid-January. In other words, the situation on the ground is deteriorating fast.

Adding to the gravity of the moment, reports indicate Iran may currently be holding more than eight American citizens and residents, based on information from sources familiar with Tehran’s long-standing hostage-taking practices. Not exactly the behavior of a government acting in good faith—no matter how often it claims otherwise.

Despite the escalating crackdown, Tehran has said it is keeping communication channels with Washington open. Trump confirmed that Iran has reached out, saying it “wants to negotiate,” and that a meeting may be in the works. Still, he made clear that action may be necessary before any talks take place.

While all options remain on the table, the White House reiterated that diplomacy remains the president’s first choice. But make no mistake: under President Trump, diplomacy is backed by strength, leverage, and consequences—not empty statements.

By standing firmly against the Iranian regime and those who enable it, Trump is once again putting America’s values and security first. The message to the world is clear, the pressure is real, and leadership is back on the global stage.
