Trump Highlights Job Growth and Investment in Pennsylvania During Mount Pocono Speech

President Donald Trump opened his address in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday by emphasizing economic gains in the state during his current term in office. Trump told supporters that approximately 60,000 jobs have been created in Pennsylvania since January and noted a decline in the number of residents receiving food assistance.

“After just ten months in office, I’m pleased to report that America is winning again. Pennsylvania is prospering again, and I will not rest until this Commonwealth is wealthier and stronger than ever before,” Trump said.

He added that the administration has created “nearly 60,000 new Pennsylvania jobs, including 4,000 Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs,” and stated that more than 40,000 Pennsylvanians have left food stamp programs during this period.

Trump also acknowledged Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA), saying that the two have worked together to secure close to $100 billion in investment commitments for the state. “Working with Sen. David McCormick, we’ve secured commitments for nearly $100 billion of investments in Pennsylvania,” he said.

A significant portion of Trump’s remarks focused on U.S. Steel. He credited his administration with facilitating a partnership involving Nippon Steel, which had been seeking to acquire U.S. Steel for more than a year and a half. Trump described the partnership as a step that would help preserve the company and keep its operations in Pennsylvania.

“This little group of people, and me, saved a little company called U.S. Steel, and it’s hot as a pistol now, and we have the keys to the company,” Trump said. “It’s always going to be here. It’s never moving.”

Trump previously visited a U.S. Steel facility in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, in May to highlight the agreement. At the time, he emphasized that the company’s headquarters would remain in Pittsburgh and reiterated his commitment to domestic steel production.

“The best and strongest steel on earth will forever be made in America and made in Pennsylvania,” Trump said during the May visit.
