Donald Trump highlighted what he called the success of his energy agenda during a visit Friday to Corpus Christi, pointing to rising oil and natural gas production, expanding exports, and lower gasoline prices for American consumers.
Speaking to dock workers at the Port of Corpus Christi, with oil tankers lined up behind him in the Gulf of Mexico, Trump said the country is experiencing an unprecedented energy surge.
“Since my inauguration, U.S. oil production is up by 600,000 barrels a day, natural gas production is at an all-time record high by far, and today, right here in Corpus Christi, the price of gasoline is down to just under $2.30,” Trump said.
The president added that during a recent trip to Iowa, he saw gas prices as low as $1.99 and even $1.85.
“We’re witnessing a historic American energy boom like we’ve never seen, and this port is right at the center of the action,” Trump declared.
Trump also credited his first-term administration for approving key funding for the port and accused former President Joe Biden of attempting to cut off that funding after taking office.
“Today the dock workers, energy workers, and great people of Texas once again really have a president that loves our country, a president who fights for our country, and a president who’s got your back,” Trump said.
The president noted that liquefied natural gas exports have risen by 37 percent and are now at the highest level in U.S. history, while crude oil exports have increased by hundreds of thousands of barrels per day under his administration.
Trump also pointed to what he called a strategic energy partnership with Venezuela following Operation Absolute Resolve, during which U.S. forces captured former dictator Nicolás Maduro. According to Trump, the United States has already taken in 80 million barrels of Venezuelan oil.
“For the benefit of both our nations, we’re going to refine their oil right here in America and right here in Texas and then export it to all over the world,” he said. “We’re going to keep some for ourselves, give some to them, and they’re going to make more money than they’ve ever made before.”
Trump concluded by saying the effort would help rebuild Venezuela while also strengthening the U.S. economy.
“We’ll help build their country again, which was a disaster, and we’re going to build it up, and we’re going to benefit also — and that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” he said.
