U.S. Intensifies Strikes, as Tehran Launches Attacks on Gulf States

The United States has significantly ramped up its military campaign against Iran, launching fresh strikes near Tehran and other provinces, while Iran retaliated by firing missiles and drones at U.S. bases and allies in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.

U.S. Central Command confirmed the latest wave of attacks hit military targets, including areas around the capital for the first time in this phase of the conflict. The operations also targeted a ship accused of attempting to break the U.S. naval blockade near Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal. Iranian authorities reported that the latest U.S. strikes have killed more than 35 people and wounded over 300 in recent days.

In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Gulf states hosting U.S. military facilities. Explosions and air defense activity were reported in Bahrain (home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet), Kuwait, and Jordan. Iraqi authorities also reported a drone attack on Erbil that was successfully intercepted.

The escalation comes amid a fierce battle for control of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. has reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran continues to claim the strait is closed except under its own terms. Shipping traffic through the critical waterway has dropped sharply, driving oil prices above $85 per barrel.

This marks the sixth consecutive day of direct exchanges. Both sides continue to accuse the other of violating the deal, with no immediate signs of de-escalation despite mediation efforts, and reports of Iran willingness to sign a deal that looks more to a distracting.strategy than anything else.

We'll see whether only under intense pressure the Iranian government feels the need to make a deal, or more extreme factions take control of the negotiating table. Time will tell.
