United Airlines Grounds Hamas-Praising Pilot — Again — After Troubling Reinstatement Report

United Airlines, a company entrusted with the lives of millions, finds itself once again embroiled in controversy after a pilot who openly praised Hamas terrorists following their October 7th massacre was reportedly allowed to return to the cockpit, only to be grounded again after public exposure.

Captain Ibrahim R. Mossallam's initial suspension in November 2023 came after his egregious social media posts surfaced. In the immediate aftermath of Hamas's brutal assault on Israel, Mossallam cheered the terrorists as “brave people” and dismissed their horrific actions as “resistance,” falsely blaming the “Zionist regime” for the slaughter of innocents. These are not the words of a neutral observer, but of someone seemingly endorsing barbaric acts against civilians.

Yet, despite the outrage from Jewish organizations and communities demanding his termination, Israel's Channel 14 recently reported a disturbing development: United quietly allowed Mossallam to resume flying just six months after his suspension. This revelation, first reported by The Daily Wire, forced United's hand.

Responding to the renewed scrutiny, a United Airlines spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that Mossallam has now been “withheld from service pending an ongoing review.” The airline, however, conspicuously failed to clarify whether he had indeed returned to flying after its initial investigation, leaving critical questions unanswered about their commitment to passenger safety and corporate accountability. An “ongoing review” for a pilot who openly endorsed terrorism seems like a minimal response, especially after an alleged reinstatement.

Adding to the deeply troubling picture, Mossallam has reportedly continued his anti-Israel rants on social media in the intervening years, asserting that “Their plan [Israel’s] was never to stop the theft of land. Were it not for the Palestinian resistance and the awakening of the world, all of Palestine would already have been taken.” Furthermore, Mossallam is listed as a board member for the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization with a history of controversial statements regarding Israel.

This shocking incident at United Airlines comes on the heels of another terrifying event: the attempted terrorist hijacking of Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30th. In that case, an Omani co-pilot, who had previously published antisemitic posts and advocated for violence, allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane with 174 people on board. Only the heroic actions of Israeli passengers and crew, including off-duty pilots, prevented a catastrophic tragedy.

Both the Flydubai and United Airlines sagas underscore a profound and alarming failure in pilot screening and airline accountability, particularly when flying into or out of countries like Israel. The idea that an individual who publicly celebrates terrorism could be trusted with the lives of hundreds of passengers, even temporarily, is an affront to common sense and national security. American airlines must prioritize the safety of their passengers above all else, rigorously vetting personnel, and demonstrating zero tolerance for those who endorse radical ideologies that threaten our security and values. Anything less is a betrayal of public trust and a dangerous concession to extremism.
