The dream is alive and roaring!
The United States Men’s National Team delivered another commanding performance Friday afternoon at Lumen Field, defeating Australia 2-0 to clinch a spot in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in thrilling fashion. With this victory, the Stars and Stripes secured their second straight win in as many matches — a historic feat not accomplished by the U.S. since the very first World Cup in 1930, for a great moment for American soccer.
The game exploded early. In the 10th minute, Folarin Balogun’s sharp pass deflected off Australia’s Cameron Burgess and into the back of the net for an own goal, giving the U.S. the lead for the second consecutive match. The Americans refused to sit back, controlling over 60% of the possession and creating chance after chance. Then, in the 43rd minute, young star Alex Freeman — 21 years old and the youngest player on the roster — rose like a warrior on a set piece and powered home a header. After an initial offside call, VAR delivered justice, and Lumen Field erupted as Freeman celebrated his first-ever World Cup goal.
The Seattle crowd was electric. Even without captain Christian Pulisic sidelined by a calf injury, the U.S. showed incredible depth and resilience. They dominated from start to finish, proving this squad has the heart, talent, and character to go far on home soil.
With six goals already in the group stage and a perfect 2-0-0 record, the United States sits atop Group D with six points. The knockout stage awaits — and America seems more than ready.
This is more than just a strong start. This is a statement. The USMNT seems to be writing a new chapter in U.S. soccer history, and the whole nation is buzzing with pride.
On to the next one. Enjoy, America!
