The arrangement becomes even more unusual and frankly, alarming, when considering that as an American citizen, Johnson is reportedly ineligible for Top Secret security clearance. The question remains: what level of access does Carney's top deputy truly have to classified or secure materials within the Canadian government, and what does this mean for American national security interests?
Adding to the concern, no official announcement of Johnson’s hire was ever made on the Prime Minister’s official website, a striking lack of transparency that begs further scrutiny.
Johnson’s professional resume reads like a who’s who of Democrat establishment figures. In 2016, she served as Director of Scheduling for Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign. By 2020, she was deeply embedded with Michael Bloomberg’s now-defunct Hawkfish political consulting firm, later providing “strategic consulting” services to the Biden campaign from August to December 2020. While FEC records don't show direct expenditures to her for a potential 2024 Biden-Harris campaign role, her financial contributions via ActBlue firmly plant her within the Democrat funding machine.
It is through Bloomberg that the full extent of Johnson's — and by extension, Carney’s — intertwining with a web of influential Democrats truly comes into focus.
Prime Minister Carney’s own history reveals a globalist lean, particularly through his tenure as U.N. Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance starting in 2019. In this capacity, he co-chaired the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), an organization founded in 2021 with none other than Michael Bloomberg as a co-chair, who now serves as its chairman. Johnson, it turns out, provided research and support to Carney during his U.N. role, solidifying her ties to this globalist network and its key players.
Upon joining the Canadian government, Johnson's initial portfolio explicitly focused on U.S. stakeholder strategy and Canadian-U.S. relations. Even George Soros’s son, Alex Soros, has made two separate visits to Canada this year alone. Former President Barack Obama famously delivered a speech at the Canada 2020 gala in Toronto, showcasing Carney’s apparent success in bringing these figures to Canada—seemingly for the purpose of strategizing against President Trump’s administration.
Another key figure bridging the gap between Washington Democrats and Prime Minister Carney is Gerald Butts, formerly a top political advisor and strategist to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Butts, known in Canada as the architect of the Liberals’ climate and net-zero policies, is a natural ideological ally of Carney. Interestingly, Butts now works alongside Prime Minister Carney’s wife, Diana Fox Carney, at Eurasia Group, both holding senior advisor titles. Public records show Eurasia Group has received multiple consulting contracts from the Canadian government between 2011 and 2024.
Carney and Butts also share significant connections with John Podesta, the long-time Democrat powerbroker whose influence stretches back to the Clinton administration, where he served as White House Chief of Staff. Hillary Clinton herself was a featured speaker at a Canada 2020 conference in 2014, an event that reportedly doubled as a fundraiser for the Liberal Party of Canada. In 2017, another Canada 2020 conference, featuring Obama, also served as a fundraiser for Trudeau. The pattern is clear: Canadian political events are regularly used as platforms for anti-Trump forces.
Matt Taube, a former speechwriter for Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, noted the careful maneuvering, telling the New York Post in 2025 that "Podesta and Butts clearly know each other, but Carney’s campaign has been very careful not to tie him to anyone too specifically." Despite this caution, reports indicate Podesta helped facilitate a private meeting involving Carney, Obama, and Soros at the former president’s May 2026 speech in Toronto. Weeks later, another private gathering in Nova Scotia included federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly; Soros and his wife, Huma Abedin, a long-time Hillary Clinton loyalist; and Frank McKenna, deputy chair of TD Bank Group and chair of Brookfield Asset Management. These are not coincidental encounters.
These deeply intertwined relationships are now directly factoring into the increasingly strained status of Canadian-U.S. relations, threatening American interests.
On July 1, Trade Representative Jameson Greer issued formal notice that the U.S. would not agree to renew the USMCA in its current form, triggering a review period for all involved nations to address the Agreement’s perceived shortcomings. After a month of talks failed to yield a deal, Prime Minister Carney dramatically declared his country is now "at war" with the U.S., suspending negotiations with Greer.
“We cannot accept what they’ve offered, and we will not give what they’ve asked,” Carney stated in a report from Breitbart News. Greer’s account tells a different story, asserting that it was the Canadians who "scuttled the deal with new demands and walk backs of other commitments" in the eleventh hour. This intransigence, fueled by what appears to be a coordinated effort against America First principles, directly led to President Trump’s decisive action.
In a bold move to protect American workers and industries, President Trump announced a 50 percent tariff on all trucks, cars, and steel from Canada, effective January 1, in response to Canadian duties on American agricultural products. This is what real leadership looks like.

“Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries,” he wrote, adding that this is “Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE!”
“They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95 percent of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact opposite!” he concluded, laying bare the economic reality and Canada's entitled posture.
The Canadian government’s calculated intransigence and its deep, unannounced ties to America's radical left have major implications for our nation's sovereignty and economic prosperity. The Prime Minister’s office must be fully forthcoming with Maia Johnson’s true role and the details of all meetings Carney has taken with Democrats.
