Yet, just eight days before the candidate filing deadline in early December 2021, Talarico registered to vote at his mother's home address in Austin, according to Texas voter registration files. Sources indicate there is no evidence Talarico resided at his mother's home during this crucial period. Even if he had, Texas law is unequivocal: candidates for the Texas House must have resided in their district for at least one year prior to the election.

The Texas Constitution leaves no room for ambiguity on this point, requiring House candidates to have lived in the state for two years and in their represented district for at least one year before the election. Talarico only purchased a home in the 50th House District in Austin in 2022, *after* he had already run in the party primary, listing his mother's address on his election forms. When pressed for comment, Talarico's campaign remained notably silent, declining to respond to The Federalist's inquiries.

The Preacher Who "Hates Christianity" Accuses

This saga of apparent election law disregard is particularly rich given Talarico's public persona. The same individual who, in 2021, paradoxically described himself as "a Christian who hates Christianity" while pandering to a "nonbinary, transgender, Latinx theologian on the autistic spectrum," found ample energy to castigate Ken Paxton. Talarico seized upon a hit piece by left-leaning outlets ProPublica and The Texas Tribune that accused Paxton of using an address where he did not live for six elections. These outlets eagerly highlighted Paxton's divorce filing and residence changes, reminding their readers that "it is illegal to misrepresent your residence on election records or to establish a residence for the purpose of influencing the outcome of an election."
