In the latest episode of Democrats saying whatever it takes to sound profound, California gubernatorial candidate and Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell declared that members of the military have told him they can act as a “check” on President Donald Trump. Apparently, in their world, Congress doesn’t work, the Supreme Court is useless, but luckily, Democratic politicians have suddenly discovered a new branch of government: wishful thinking.
On Don Lemon’s show, Swalwell talked about the controversy surrounding a video where six Democratic lawmakers urge service members to “refuse illegal orders” from the president. Because nothing says stability like politicians telling the military to pick and choose what orders they like.

Things escalated when the Department of War announced it was launching a formal misconduct review into Sen. Mark Kelly, a retired Navy captain, for appearing in the video. Naturally, Swalwell framed this as the Trump administration somehow “telling on itself.” Only in Washington does asking for professionalism suddenly mean you have sinister intentions.
Swalwell claimed some service members have told him they can serve as a “check” on Trump because they won’t “betray their oath” just because “this guy” tells them to. Interesting how Democrats suddenly admire military integrity when it fits their narrative.
Lemon, of course, agreed, suggesting that the Trump administration and Republicans are encouraging service members to “ignore the Constitution.” The script never changes, only the dramatic tone does.
Swalwell then argued that the only reason to go after Kelly for telling soldiers they don’t have to follow unlawful orders is if the administration plans to issue unlawful orders. In other words, if you insist the military shouldn’t be politicized, you must be planning something illegal. That logic is classic D.C. spin.

Later that same day, Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego warned on CNN that there would be consequences for military members who “go after” Kelly. Nothing screams democracy like politicians threatening the troops for simply doing their jobs.
Despite all the noise, one thing remains clear: Trump continues moving forward, and the same people continue looking for imaginary crises. And for millions of Americans, that’s just more proof that better days are still ahead.
