Gabbard explained that the role of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is to support the president by providing coordinated intelligence and the best information available. After reviewing that intelligence, she confirmed that Trump concluded Iran posed an imminent threat and took decisive action to protect the nation and U.S. troops.

This comes shortly after Trump addressed Kent’s resignation, calling it “a good thing” and describing the former counterterrorism chief as “very weak on security.” Not exactly a glowing performance review—but given the circumstances, not entirely surprising either.

Trump reiterated that Iran was indeed a threat, noting that while countries may differ on how to respond, there is broad recognition of the danger posed by the Iranian regime. Officials familiar with the situation also indicated that Kent had challenged intelligence assessments labeling Iran as an immediate threat, putting him at odds with senior leadership who supported a stronger, more realistic approach.
