U.S. immigration authorities arrested several illegal immigrants convicted of serious child sex offenses in a single day, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.
The arrests were carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and involved five individuals from different countries, including Mexico, Laos, China, and Jamaica. Officials stated that those taken into custody had prior convictions for crimes such as sexual abuse of a child, gang assault, and incest.
Among the cases highlighted:
- Liew Liem Saecho, a Laotian national, was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child in California
- Erick Jovanini Gonzalez-Vargas, a Mexican national, was convicted of sexual abuse of a child in Utah
A DHS official said the arrests are part of broader enforcement efforts targeting individuals convicted of serious crimes, particularly those involving harm to minors.
