Markets Soar, Oil Plunges as Trump’s Ceasefire With Iran Sparks Global Rally

Global markets wasted no time reacting after President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran — and the response was exactly what you’d expect when tensions ease: stocks up, oil down, and optimism back on the table.

U.S. futures surged across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped about 2%, while S&P 500 futures climbed 2.3% and Nasdaq futures nearly hit a 3% gain. Not bad for a night’s work — turns out de-escalating a potential global crisis tends to calm investors. Who knew?

Oil prices, meanwhile, took a sharp dive. Brent crude dropped roughly 13.5% to $94.50 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate fell 14.7% to $96.40. U.S. natural gas slipped 3.6%, and home heating oil futures plunged more than 18%. After weeks of rising costs and pressure at the pump, that’s a development plenty of Americans will welcome.

The rally wasn’t limited to the U.S. Markets across Asia followed suit with strong gains. Japan’s Nikkei surged 5%, South Korea’s KOSPI jumped 5.6%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX rose 2.65%. Hong Kong futures also pointed higher, signaling broad global confidence in the ceasefire announcement.

Trump made it clear that the agreement hinges on one key condition: Iran must fully and immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that Tehran’s forces would halt defensive operations, while reports suggest peace talks between the U.S. and Iran are set to begin in Islamabad.

And just like that, the tone shifts from missiles to markets.

The potential for a longer-term agreement is already being discussed, with the ceasefire possibly extended if negotiations progress. For investors, that’s the kind of signal that turns uncertainty into opportunity.

At the end of the day, this is what stability looks like: markets rising, energy costs falling, and the possibility of lasting peace on the horizon. For all the noise leading up to this moment, the outcome speaks for itself — and right now, the numbers are telling a very positive story.
