Monica Crowley Says America Must Return to God to Restore Nation’s Founding Principles

Ambassador Monica Crowley says America cannot restore its founding values or national strength without returning to faith in God — a message she delivered while discussing the upcoming Freedom 250 celebration ahead of the nation’s historic 250th anniversary.
Speaking during an interview Wednesday, Crowley explained that the Trump administration’s broader mission to restore America’s founding principles goes far beyond politics or economics. According to Crowley, rebuilding the country requires reconnecting with the spiritual foundations that shaped the nation from the very beginning.
“President Trump’s big project is to restore America back to her foundational principles of individual liberty, economic freedom, and self-governance, and restore power back to the people,” Crowley said. “That’s what Make America Great Again is really all about.”
“And in order to restore our nation back to those core pillars, you have to have God,” she added.
Crowley is helping lead Freedom 250, the semiquincentennial initiative celebrating America’s 250th birthday. One of the first major events, called “Rededicate 250,” is scheduled for May 17 on the National Mall and is being described as a national celebration of prayer, praise, repentance, and thanksgiving.
The event is expected to bring together faith leaders, political figures, and Americans from across the country in what organizers call a “National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving.” In Washington, D.C., that’s probably the first time in years some politicians will hear the words “faith” and “repentance” used in the same sentence.
Crowley said America’s Founding Fathers repeatedly acknowledged the role of divine providence in the creation of the United States and understood they could not succeed without God’s guidance.
“Our Founding Fathers in so many of their documents and their letters refer to God and how they couldn’t do what they did in establishing our exceptional country without the hand of God on them,” she explained.
Crowley specifically pointed to George Washington and other founders who openly discussed faith and divine blessing throughout their writings.
She argued that America has drifted away from those roots over the last century, particularly with the rise of modern progressivism and increasing secularism in public life.
