Noncitizen Arrested for Allegedly Casting Illegal Ballots, Exposing Election Vulnerabilities

A lawful permanent resident from Australia now faces federal charges for allegedly voting illegally in U.S. federal elections, a stark reminder of the persistent threats to America's electoral integrity.

Denise Nataly Migliore, 51, was arrested after an investigation revealed she knowingly made false claims about her U.S. citizenship to register and vote in federal elections in Louisiana, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Prosecutors outline a clear pattern: Migliore allegedly registered to vote in October 2022 and October 2024 by falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. Subsequently, in November of each of those years, she reportedly cast ballots after falsely certifying her eligibility as a U.S. citizen. The truth, federal officials say, is simple and critical: she was ineligible to vote because she is not a U.S. citizen.

Homeland Security Investigations took Migliore into custody on July 1 at the federal courthouse in New Orleans, following a thorough investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Lauren Bis, acting Assistant DHS Secretary of Public Affairs, issued a clear and unequivocal statement following the arrest. "This alien from Australia now faces federal charges for falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen and illegally casting ballots in two elections," Bis said. "Her arrest and charges are the result of the hard work of the men and women of ICE law enforcement and our federal partners."

Bis emphasized the critical message for any non-citizens considering such a violation: "Our message to aliens who vote in American elections is clear: We will find you, arrest you and you will face the consequences, including criminal charges and deportation. Only Americans should be electing American leaders."

The charges against Migliore include making false statements to register to vote and illegal voting in an election. If convicted, she could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee.

This case serves as a powerful testament to the urgent need for stringent election security measures and robust enforcement. The integrity of American elections is not merely a political talking point; it is the bedrock of our Republic. When non-citizens cast ballots, the voices of legitimate American voters are diminished, and the fundamental principle of 'America First' – that only those who pledge allegiance to this nation should shape its future – is undermined. Vigilance, accountability, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law are paramount to safeguard our sacred right to vote.
