President Donald Trump revealed Wednesday that the United States may seize Iran’s vital oil stronghold of Kharg Island, stating the option is actively under consideration following fresh American airstrikes on the strategic site.
“We attacked Kharg Island last night. We knocked out a piece,” Trump said. “I said, don’t touch the oil because maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island. You know, we may take over Kharg Island. It’s not a thing they can do about it. But I said, don’t hit the pipes. Just hit everything else and they hit it.”
The president added that additional strikes could come as soon as tonight.
Kharg Island serves as Iran’s primary oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf, handling a massive portion of the country’s crude oil exports and located near the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. Controlling or neutralizing the island would severely cripple Iran’s ability to export oil and generate revenue.
Trump’s comments come amid escalating military action against Iran after the regime violated a ceasefire by attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces have conducted multiple waves of powerful strikes on Iranian targets, including military infrastructure on Kharg Island, while deliberately sparing the oil facilities themselves — keeping open the possibility of American control.
The remarks reflect the administration’s increasingly strong posture toward the Iranian regime, signaling that Washington is getting fed up with their games and prepared to move beyond airstrikes to direct control of key economic assets if Tehran continues its provocations.
