U.S. Central Command Launches Strikes on Iran

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Tuesday that American forces have begun a series of powerful strikes against Iran in direct response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which violated a recent ceasefire.

The statement reads:

“U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway. The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.”

The announcement comes at a highly symbolic moment: President Donald Trump is currently in Ankara, Turkey, where he arrived earlier today for the NATO Summit. Trump was warmly received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with full military honors, including a red carpet arrival ceremony, honor guard review, and bilateral meetings at the Presidential Palace.

While Trump engages in high-level diplomacy with Erdoğan and other NATO leaders — discussing defense spending, regional security, and bilateral ties including potential F-35 sales to Turkey — U.S. forces under his command are actively striking Iranian targets. Explosions were reported in areas such as Bandar Abbas following the U.S. action.

This development underscores the Trump administration’s willingness to respond forcefully to Iranian aggression in key maritime chokepoints, even as the President advances diplomatic priorities on the ground in Turkey. The timing highlights the administration’s dual-track approach: decisive military action paired with strategic engagement with key NATO allies like Turkey.

The situation in the region remains fluid as CENTCOM operations continue. Further updates are expected in the coming hours.
