Stephen King's Moral Abyss: Horror Author Defends Disgraced Dem Amid Rape Allegations, Points Finger at Trump

In a glaring display of the left's skewed moral compass, horror author Stephen King has doubled down on his support for scandal-ridden Maine Democrat Graham Platner, even as a new, harrowing rape accusation has driven almost every other prominent Democrat to abandon him. King’s defiant stance, coupled with a cynical attempt to redirect blame toward President Donald Trump, exposes a disturbing double standard prevalent among progressive elites.

Platner, whose political career has been a parade of shocking revelations – from offensive social media posts and a Nazi tattoo to his presence on an app favored by sexual predators and prior abuse allegations – now faces a bombshell report detailing a rape accusation. Yet, King, a septuagenarian Maine resident and vocal Democratic booster, chose this moment to dig in his heels.

"Graham Platner may drop out. (I hope he doesn’t, but.)," King posted on X, demonstrating a surprising lack of concern for the alleged victim. He then immediately pivoted: "Meanwhile, the Abuser in Chief just keeps on keepin’ on." This attempt to equivalate a sitting President with an alleged rapist who has lost virtually all support, including from his own party, is as transparent as it is repulsive.

The breaking point for most Democrats came with a Politico report in which 41-year-old Maine resident Jenny Racicot bravely recounted how Platner allegedly broke into her home in 2021 while intoxicated and raped her. The report included corroborating evidence, painting a grim picture that even Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand could no longer ignore. They quickly demanded Platner’s withdrawal and declared the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee would cease funding his race.

This sudden exodus of support from figures like Rep. Ro Khanna and Senator Elizabeth Warren, who were once Platner’s most ardent champions, speaks volumes. The Maine Democratic Party and even leftist podcaster Hasan Piker have also pulled their endorsements, leaving Platner isolated. In a two-minute video response, Platner issued a generic denial: "Any accusation of nonconsensual behavior is categorically false." He added that despite the “inaccuracy of the reporting,” the “political reality” forced him to reflect on his path forward – a classic non-apology that fails to address the gravity of the claims.

Meanwhile, King offered a follow-up defense of Platner, cloaked in biblical pretense. "Tell you what," he wrote on X. "If you knew the whole truth about everyone in the Senate and House of Reps, those chambers would be dead empty. Jesus said, ‘Let him without sin cast the first stone.’" This selective application of moral relativism from an author whose own 1986 novel "It" controversially depicted group sex among minors, and who has admitted to past cocaine addiction, is nothing short of breathtaking hypocrisy.

King’s willingness to defend Platner stands in stark contrast to his past pronouncements, such as two years ago when he urged President Joe Biden to "drop out" of the presidential race. Apparently, some Democrats are more expendable than others, particularly when their scandals highlight the moral rot within the progressive establishment. For King and his ilk, the "Abuser in Chief" is always the target, while a Democrat with a trail of serious allegations can still merit a pass – so long as he’s fighting the right political battles.

This episode serves as a stark reminder of the left's selective outrage and their willingness to shield their own, even in the face of grave accusations. Americans deserve leaders and public figures who champion accountability, not those who excuse horrific behavior through partisan lens-shifting. The integrity of our political system, and indeed our society, demands a consistent standard of conduct, free from the moral gymnastics of those who seek to redefine right and wrong based on political allegiance.
