If there’s one thing Democrats seem to excel at, it’s calling something “undemocratic” right up until they’re the ones doing it. That was essentially the message from Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., who didn’t hold back while discussing redistricting battles heating up ahead of November.
Appearing on Newsmax’s Wake Up America, Steube slammed Democrats for what he described as blatant hypocrisy in their opposition to Florida’s newly drawn congressional map. According to him, Democrat leaders—like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries—are quick to criticize Republican-led efforts while conveniently ignoring similar tactics in their own strongholds.
“The hypocrisy is just absolutely amazing,” Steube said, pointing to states like Virginia, New York, and California, where Democrats have long engaged in aggressive redistricting. But when Republicans redraw maps? Suddenly it’s a crisis.
Florida Democrats have filed a lawsuit aiming to block the GOP-backed plan, arguing it unfairly benefits Republicans. Steube, however, pushed back by emphasizing that recent Supreme Court rulings on race-based districting require states to ensure maps meet constitutional standards. In other words, adjustments aren’t optional—they’re necessary.
And then there’s the population factor—something critics don’t seem too eager to mention. Florida is booming, with roughly 1,100 people moving into the state every single day. According to Steube, a significant number of those new residents are Republicans. Funny how that works.
If those trends hold, Steube predicts the new district maps could deliver a net gain of four Republican seats. Not exactly what Democrats had in mind.
Beyond redistricting, Steube highlighted key economic wins Republicans are taking into the midterms, including a $6,000 Social Security tax rebate that he says has made a real difference—especially for seniors living on fixed incomes. While some in the media may be focused elsewhere, he made it clear that affordability remains front and center for voters.
He also raised concerns about national security, specifically foreign ownership of U.S. farmland. Backing his amendment to the farm bill, Steube warned that countries like China, Russia, and Iran should not be allowed to purchase land near sensitive sites, citing risks tied to surveillance of U.S. military assets. His reaction? “It’s insane” that it’s been allowed to happen for so long.
With legal battles looming and midterms on the horizon, Steube struck a confident tone. For Republicans, the strategy is straightforward: stay focused, highlight results, and turn out voters.
Because if current trends are any indication, the momentum isn’t just shifting—it’s accelerating.
