Trump Announces Historic Iran Deal Set to Be Signed Sunday

President Donald Trump announced Saturday that a new agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, marking what he described as a major step toward preventing Tehran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the agreement would permanently block Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon while also reopening the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping immediately. The strategic waterway is one of the most important routes for international trade and energy transportation, making its reopening significant for the global economy.

Trump drew a sharp contrast between the upcoming agreement and former President Barack Obama’s 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). According to Trump, the Obama-era deal created a pathway that could eventually allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. Critics of that agreement have long argued that its restrictions were temporary and failed to eliminate the threat permanently—because apparently kicking the can down the road was considered a foreign policy strategy at the time.

Emphasizing the difference between the two approaches, Trump declared that his agreement is designed to achieve the exact opposite outcome.

“My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON!” Trump wrote.

The announcement represents another major foreign policy development as the administration continues pursuing what Trump describes as peace through strength. If signed as planned, the agreement would aim to provide a permanent barrier against Iran’s nuclear ambitions while helping restore stability to one of the world's most critical shipping corridors.

Supporters view the deal as a significant achievement that prioritizes American interests, strengthens global security, and reinforces the principle that lasting peace is best achieved from a position of strength. As the expected signing approaches, attention will remain focused on what could become a landmark diplomatic victory.
