Trump Says Iran Deal ‘Imminent’ as Diplomatic Push Faces Remaining Hurdles

A potential framework agreement aimed at ending months of fighting between the United States and Iran appears to be nearing completion, though key officials and regional voices are signaling that final hurdles remain.

U.S. and Pakistani leaders have pointed to a possible Sunday signing of what has been described as a long-elusive framework deal, while Iranian officials have cast doubt on the exact timing and continued to emphasize unresolved issues. The result is a rapidly shifting diplomatic picture marked by optimism on one side and caution on the other.

According to a source familiar with the situation speaking to Reuters, Qatari negotiators traveled to Tehran on Sunday morning as part of ongoing efforts to finalize the agreement.

President Donald Trump posted that the deal with Iran was scheduled to be signed on Sunday, which also coincides with his 80th birthday. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately said Islamabad was preparing for an electronic signing, followed by technical-level talks in the coming week.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei offered a more reserved assessment prior to Trump’s post, stating through state media that the agreement would “not be tomorrow,” though it could still come together “in the coming days.”

The differing timelines underscore the fragile nature of the negotiations, with multiple parties signaling movement while still acknowledging unresolved details.

For now, the process appears to be advancing, but not yet complete—caught between political momentum and diplomatic caution as all sides work toward a final framework.
