President Donald Trump had a nice surprise for American service members stationed at RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom.
After wrapping up his trip to Turkey for the NATO summit, Trump announced that the brand-new, truly spectacular Air Force One will make a stop at the base so troops can tour the aircraft.
In a Truth Social post, the President wrote:
“To honor our brave men and women of the Military, we are sending the brand new, and truly spectacular, Air Force One to Mildenhall Air Force Base… Everybody is so excited, and we thought that they should be the first.”
Trump explained that while the new plane heads to Mildenhall, he’ll make the short hop from Turkey aboard the old Air Force One — just for old time’s sake — so the troops get the chance to check out America’s shiny new flying White House.
The new Air Force One is a heavily upgraded Boeing 747-8 originally gifted by Qatar. It received extensive modifications for security, communications, and presidential-level luxury. Trump first flew on it on July 1, and it has already been put to work during his current overseas trip.
It’s serving as a solid interim presidential aircraft while Boeing finishes the next generation of dedicated Air Force One planes.
Nothing beats giving the men and women who serve overseas a front-row seat to one of the coolest planes in the sky. A little morale boost with a side of “wow, check this out!” — classic Trump touch.
The base at Mildenhall, home to around 4,000 U.S. personnel, continues to play an important role in American operations in Europe and beyond.
