President Donald Trump announced Saturday that multiple countries will join the United States in deploying warships to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open amid escalating tensions with Iran. The message was clear: the world’s most important oil shipping route will not be held hostage.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said nations affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the critical waterway will send naval vessels to operate alongside the United States to secure the passage.
“Many Countries, especially those who are affected by Iran's attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending War Ships, in conjunction with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe,” Trump wrote.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping lanes on the planet, with roughly a fifth of the world’s traded oil moving through the narrow waterway. So naturally, when Iran tries to interfere with it, the global economy tends to notice.
Trump stated that the United States has already dealt a devastating blow to Iran’s military capabilities. However, he warned that Tehran could still attempt smaller disruptive attacks.
“We have already destroyed 100% of Iran's Military capability, but it's easy for them to send a drone or two, drop a mine, or deliver a close range missile somewhere along, or in, this Waterway, no matter how badly defeated they are,” he wrote.
The president also expressed hope that nations heavily dependent on the shipping route will step up and contribute naval forces to the effort. Countries he mentioned included China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
“Hopefully China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others, that are affected by this artificial constraint, will send Ships to the area so that the Hormuz Strait will no longer be a threat by a Nation that has been totally decapitated,” Trump wrote.
Meanwhile, Trump made it clear that the United States will continue taking action to secure the region while allies mobilize.
“In the meantime, the United States will be bombing the hell out of the shoreline, and continually shooting Iranian Boats and Ships out of the water,” he wrote. “One way or the other, we will soon get the Hormuz Strait OPEN, SAFE, and FREE!”
The announcement comes shortly after Trump revealed that U.S. forces had “obliterated” military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island, a critical hub for the country’s oil export infrastructure. Iranian officials had warned that strikes on the island could lead to a new level of retaliation.
At the same time, an American official confirmed that an additional 2,500 Marines and an amphibious assault ship are being deployed to the Middle East as tensions continue to rise.
Iran has continued launching widespread missile and drone attacks against Israel and neighboring Gulf Arab states while effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway’s disruption has drawn global concern, given its massive role in energy supply.
But the message from Washington is unmistakable: the United States and its partners intend to keep one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes open. And if history has taught us anything, it’s that when America leads and allies step up, freedom of navigation tends to win in the end.
