WASHINGTON — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday that American forces conducted targeted strikes against Iranian missile and drone storage locations as well as radar sites, in direct response to Tehran’s attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes were triggered after Iran hit the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely with a one-way attack drone on June 25 while the vessel was exiting the strait along the Omani coast.
CENTCOM described Iran’s action as “unwarranted aggression” that violated the ceasefire and threatened freedom of navigation in the critical waterway. “CENTCOM forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial vessels transiting the strait,” the command stated, adding that U.S. forces remain “present and vigilant.”
