UNRWA's Shameful Secret Exposed: UN Staffers Tied to October 7 Hamas Atrocities, First Terror Affiliate Debarred

The truth about the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has come roaring into plain sight: an organization supposedly dedicated to humanitarian aid has been revealed as a virtual employment agency for terrorists. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has confirmed what many conservatives have long suspected, identifying over 100 individuals employed by or affiliated with UNRWA who actively collaborated with Hamas during the barbaric October 7th, 2023, terror attacks on Israel.

In a rare but necessary move, three former UNRWA affiliates have now been proposed by USAID for debarment, a critical step that forever prohibits them from securing or participating in U.S. federal contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and other covered transactions. This initial administrative penalty, while seemingly modest compared to the horrific crimes committed, lifts the veil on the deep-seated corruption within a UN body that has long been propped up by American taxpayer dollars.

A searing investigative summary, released this week by USAID's Office of Inspector General (OIG), laid bare the chilling details:

USAID OIG, a statutorily independent law enforcement and oversight entity, continues to investigate UNRWA staff linked to Hamas and other U.S. designated terrorist organizations. As part of this ongoing investigation, USAID OIG has referred over 100 current or former UNRWA staff for participation in the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel and/or affiliation with Hamas to the U.S. Department of State for independent review of the evidence and consideration of suspension and/or debarment action. Of those referred, three have recently been proposed for debarment by the Department.

The individuals proposed for debarment include:

  • A former UNRWA school teacher and Hamas military operative in the Deir el Balah Battalion, who allegedly engaged in kidnapping operations during the October 7, 2023, terror attacks in Israel.
  • A former UNRWA school teacher, who through Hamas military records, was identified as an operative of the Rafah Brigade of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who was allegedly in Israel during the October 7 attacks.
  • A former UNRWA school teacher and Hamas operative for the Deir el Balah Battalion who allegedly received and held civilian hostages beginning on October 7, 2023.

One other individual, originally slated for referral, was found to be deceased. This tragic irony underscores the deadly reality of their affiliations. This brings the count to four proposed debarments, following the earlier action against Hafez Mousa Mohammed Mousa, a former UNRWA school principal and Hamas East Jabaliya Battalion operative, who was found to have coordinated communications with other suspected Hamas members during the October 7 attacks. This marked the first known debarment by the U.S. of a terrorist directly affiliated with a UN agency. The OIG summary cautions that more debarment referrals and potential criminal referrals to the United States Department of Justice are expected.

While these debarments are a step toward accountability, this bureaucratic consequence feels astonishingly light for individuals who allegedly engaged in kidnapping, active terror, and holding innocent civilians hostage. However, this is far from the end of their story. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Mossad are relentlessly hunting down these monsters with a resolve not seen since the days of Simon Wiesenthal, and for much the same reason. Hamas may try to masquerade as something other than the genocidal terror organization it is, but their actions speak louder than any propaganda. Debarment for some of these UNRWA operatives may indeed be just the first ripple in a long, dark tide of consequences.

If the United States of America ever needed an irrefutable reason to re-evaluate its entanglement with the United Nations, the continuous scandals surrounding UNRWA provide it in spades. This organization, ostensibly for humanitarian relief, has become a clear conduit for terror, proving once again that globalist institutions often fail to uphold the most basic principles of peace and security, instead becoming compromised by radical agendas.

The American people deserve better than to have their hard-earned tax dollars funneled into agencies that harbor and enable terrorists. Under strong, America First leadership, our nation demands accountability and prioritizes national security and common sense over the empty promises of international bodies. It is time for a serious reassessment of our commitment to institutions that betray public trust and enable those who seek to destroy our allies and undermine global stability.
