Wisconsin recently had a taste of this bitter truth. Many believed the Badger State had narrowly averted a crisis when Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, touted as the more “moderate” choice, bested the overtly socialist Rep. Francesca Hong in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. Hong, infamous for her divisive rhetoric and comments about "old white people," represented the most extreme fringes of the far-left. A sigh of relief might have been heard, but it was quickly replaced by a stark realization: in today’s Democratic Party, "moderate" is often just a slightly quieter brand of radicalism.
It turns out Crowley, far from being a voice of reason, has been driving Milwaukee County headfirst into the same disastrous progressive policies that are crippling blue states nationwide. Under his leadership, the county has fully embraced the divisive ideology of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), implementing "racial-equity budgeting" and bloating the county's bureaucracy with more equity-focused positions. This isn't just about buzzwords; it's about reordering society based on identity politics rather than merit and common sense.
But the radicalism doesn't stop there. Crowley has also championed Green New Deal-style climate initiatives, pushing for "net-zero" goals that promise only higher costs and economic strain for hardworking Wisconsinites. In a move that aligns perfectly with the left's war on American energy, he even urged the state’s attorney general to sue fossil fuel companies, echoing the very same policies Hong advocated—like taxing millionaires and aggressive carbon-neutrality targets. While campaigning as a moderate, Crowley has consistently delivered a far-left agenda, proving the Democratic establishment's "choices" are often a distinction without a difference.
As Wisconsin native and Republican consultant Mark Bednar pointedly noted, "Milwaukee County is known for its beer and brats, but unfortunately it's also the epicenter of David Crowley's budgetary boondoggles. Under Crowley's failed leadership, residents received their largest property tax hike in 15 years, paid higher sales taxes for everyday purchases, and saw millions of their hard-earned tax dollars set up to finance Crowley's Green New Deal 'Net Zero' scam for the county." That's the real cost of progressive promises: higher taxes, less freedom, and more government overreach.
Now, Wisconsin voters face a critical decision. Do they truly want to replicate the California model of endless taxes, bureaucratic bloat, and ideological extremism? Or will they choose a different path, one represented by America First leaders like Trump-backed GOP opponent Rep. Tom Tiffany?
The choice is clear: either Wisconsin embraces the common-sense, freedom-focused principles that built this nation, or it falls prey to the left's "moderate" illusion, which, as David Crowley demonstrates, is anything but.
