Baseball Team Forfeits Pride Night Game After Players Decline Themed Jerseys

A professional baseball team in Pennsylvania announced it will forfeit a scheduled game after several players declined to wear jerseys prepared for the organization’s Pride Night event.

The York Revolution of the Atlantic League said the decision to cancel Thursday’s game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs “was not reached lightly,” but the organization made clear in its public statement that it strongly disagreed with the players’ decision.

According to the team, a small group of players refused to wear the LGBTQ-themed uniforms, which featured rainbow-colored sleeves as part of the franchise’s 11th annual Pride Night celebration.

In a sharply worded statement, the organization said it was “deeply troubled and profoundly disappointed” and described the players’ actions as “completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York.”

The Revolution also announced a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center, describing it as a gesture of regret over the late cancellation and support for local LGBTQIA+ community partners.

Even though the game itself will not be played, the organization said it still plans to hold a “free and fun celebration of recognition and inclusion” at the stadium and offer ticket exchanges for future regular-season home games.

The team did not immediately respond to questions regarding which players declined to participate, whether the players would comment publicly, or whether additional disciplinary action would follow.

The development comes shortly after reports that players with another professional baseball organization wrote Bible verses on Pride-themed apparel and later received warnings.

The situation highlights an increasingly visible tension across sports: how teams balance organizational messaging, player participation, and individual choice. Professional sports always promise to unite people — until jersey night suddenly becomes the headline instead of the scoreboard.

For now, the season continues, and attention shifts to how teams, players, and fans navigate moments where values, identity, and competition intersect.
