Fox News reported that two individuals scaled the iconic Empire State Building Wednesday afternoon, reaching the top of the spire and unfurling a massive banner reading “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”
The stunt ended with the man getting down on one knee to propose marriage to the woman before NYPD took them into custody.
The climbers, later identified as rooftoppers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus (featured in a Netflix documentary), somehow bypassed security on one of New York City’s most recognizable landmarks in broad daylight. Roughly 40 officers responded, traffic was blocked, and the public watched the dangerous spectacle unfold.
While the couple’s romantic stunt grabbed headlines, it highlights a deeper problem: under years of progressive leadership prioritizing ideology over public safety, New York continues to project weakness. Iconic sites should not be this vulnerable — especially in the lead-up to America’s 250th birthday celebrations. Basic security and deterrence seem optional in a city that has normalized chaos, from migrant crime waves to open disrespect for law enforcement.
Trespassing on national symbols isn’t harmless performance art when it exposes serious gaps. President Trump and border-focused leaders like Tom Homan have repeatedly warned that lax enforcement invites exploitation.
This incident, however romanticized, underscores the need for restored order, stronger consequences, and leadership that puts American landmarks, citizens, and sovereignty first.New York deserves better. America deserves better.
