Democrats Blame Law Enforcement—Again—For Violence They Enable

Once again, we’re told there’s supposedly a serious debate over whether someone who recklessly disobeys law enforcement and endangers lives should face consequences. Democrats and their increasingly fragile media allies are pushing the now-familiar argument: interfering with arrests—and even putting officers and pedestrians at risk—is apparently a civil right right up there with free speech.

This week in Minneapolis, a 37-year-old woman, Renee Nicole Good, was shot and killed after using her SUV to block a street patrolled by police and immigration enforcement agents. Multiple videos from different angles show the same sequence of events, even if some would rather viewers not believe their own eyes.

While officers sat in their vehicles, protesters blew whistles and shouted. Good parked her Honda Pilot sideways in the middle of the street, completely obstructing traffic. When three officers approached and ordered her to exit the vehicle, she instead put the car into reverse, then shifted forward and accelerated hard—apparently striking an agent on his left side. The officer had his weapon drawn and visible. When she failed to brake, he fired multiple rounds. The SUV then slammed at high speed into another parked car.

An investigation is ongoing, but that didn’t stop Democratic leaders or the media from rushing to judgment—against law enforcement, of course. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told CNN that Good clearly had no intention of running anyone over and that deadly force was not justified. Apparently, intent is now determined after the fact, from a studio chair.

The Washington Post followed up with sympathetic headlines highlighting that the ICE agent was allegedly not in the vehicle’s path and emphasizing Good’s personal life. They do this every time someone who fits a preferred political narrative provokes law enforcement and dies as a result. Context becomes optional, and accountability disappears entirely.

This isn’t new. Four years ago in North Carolina, police attempting to arrest Andrew Brown for drug charges encountered a similar situation. Officers surrounded Brown’s vehicle and ordered him to exit. Instead, he backed up toward them, then drove forward in an attempt to flee, apparently striking an officer. As he accelerated away, police fired the shots that killed him.

The reality Democrats keep ignoring is simple: fleeing in a vehicle during an arrest is inherently dangerous. It puts officers, bystanders, protesters, and the suspect at risk. In the heat of the moment, law enforcement cannot read minds. They know only that commands are being ignored and lives are in immediate danger.

The logical end point of the Democratic argument is that lethal force is never justified as long as a suspect is fleeing. Under that worldview, crime effectively becomes consequence-free—as long as you’re fast enough and reckless enough.

No thanks. This has never been about whether someone “deserves” to die. It’s about whether law enforcement officers and the public are entitled to safety when laws are being enforced. Democrats seem to believe they are not.

The good news? Most Americans understand reality better than political talking points. Respect for the law, for public safety, and for the men and women who enforce it remains strong—and with leadership that refuses to surrender common sense, that respect isn’t going anywhere.
