Reverend Franklin Graham strongly criticized Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico after Talarico reportedly claimed that the Bible is “silent on abortion.”
In a social media post, Graham rejected that assertion, calling it an “absolute lie” and arguing that Scripture clearly affirms the value of human life.
“Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico couldn’t be more wrong! The Bible is not silent on abortion as he claims — that’s an absolute lie,” Graham wrote.
Graham pointed to the commandment found in Exodus 20:13, stating, “You shall not murder,” and argued that abortion constitutes the taking of a human life.
The evangelical leader also cited Jeremiah 1:5, which states, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart,” as evidence that the Bible recognizes the value and significance of life before birth.
According to Graham, the broader message of Scripture consistently teaches that human beings are created in the image of God and possess inherent worth from the earliest stages of life.
The minister also referenced a separate controversy involving Talarico from 2021. Graham noted that the Democratic candidate opposed legislation that would have prohibited biological males from competing in women’s sports and cited Talarico’s reported statement that “God is non-binary.”
Graham concluded his remarks by warning voters against what he described as misleading political rhetoric on matters of faith and public policy.
The exchange highlights the ongoing debate over abortion, religion, and the role of faith in American politics. After all, when candidates invoke Scripture to support their positions, disagreements over what the Bible actually teaches tend to become front-page issues rather quickly.
As the Senate race continues, questions surrounding abortion policy, religious values, and cultural issues are expected to remain central topics for voters evaluating the candidates and their visions for the future.
