Minnesota Man Sentenced to More Than 10 Years in Fatal Workplace Shooting

A Minnesota man who allegedly warned coworkers that “no one’s going home today” before a deadly confrontation at work has been sentenced to more than a decade behind bars.

Mohamed A. Hared, 26, received a prison sentence of 128 months on Thursday after previously pleading guilty to second-degree unintentional murder while committing a felony in the death of fellow employee Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif, 22, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

The fatal shooting occurred on June 29, 2024, in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center in Lakeville, Minnesota. Authorities said Hared, Cariif, and another coworker had traveled together to the facility for an overnight shift.

According to prosecutors, the incident followed a workplace dispute that escalated into violence. The case drew significant attention because of allegations that Hared had warned coworkers beforehand that “no one’s going home today,” a statement that later took on chilling significance following the deadly encounter.

Cariif lost his life in the shooting, leaving family, friends, and coworkers mourning the loss of a young man whose life was cut tragically short.

The sentencing brings a measure of legal closure to a case that shocked both the workplace and the surrounding community. Prosecutors argued that the violence stemmed from a conflict that never should have escalated to such a devastating outcome.

Workplace disagreements are unfortunately common, but most people manage to resolve them without turning a parking lot into a crime scene. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of how quickly conflicts can spiral when emotions overtake judgment.

As Hared begins serving his sentence, the case stands as another example of the serious consequences that follow acts of violence. While nothing can undo the loss suffered by Cariif’s loved ones, the conclusion of the legal process provides accountability and reinforces the importance of maintaining safety and respect in workplaces across the country.
