Soros-Backed Philly DA Threatens ICE—After Years of Going Easy on Illegal Alien Criminals

In a stunning display of political hypocrisy—though hardly a surprising one—Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is now threatening federal ICE agents with arrest and prosecution, despite having built much of his career around reducing charges for illegal migrant criminals.

Krasner, a Soros-backed Democratic prosecutor, vowed during a Thursday press conference that any Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who allegedly commits a crime in Philadelphia will be “arrested,” “tried,” and “convicted.” The remarks followed a deadly incident in Minneapolis, where a protester was shot after allegedly trying to run over an ICE agent with her vehicle.

“If any law enforcement agent, any ICE agent is gonna come to Philly to commit crimes, then you can get the F out of here,” Krasner declared.
“I will charge you with those crimes. You will be arrested. You will stand trial. You will be convicted,” he continued—helpfully adding that President Donald Trump could not pardon state convictions. Message delivered. Loudly.

What makes this sudden tough-on-crime posture so remarkable is Krasner’s long, well-documented record of doing the exact opposite when the suspect happens to be an illegal immigrant.

Shortly after taking office in 2018, Krasner created an “Immigration Counsel” position inside his office, specifically designed to consult on cases involving foreign nationals. The stated goal was to reach so-called “immigration-neutral” outcomes—which in practice means evaluating, reducing, or adjusting charges so that criminal convictions would not trigger deportation. Because apparently immigration consequences are the real injustice here.

Krasner initially claimed this program would focus only on “low-level” offenses. That talking point didn’t age well. A case list obtained in 2021 revealed the Immigration Counsel was involved in cases involving rape of a child, rape, sexual assault, arson, and murder. Yes—those famous “low-level” crimes.

A more recent case list released in 2024 showed the practice continuing. During the 2023 calendar year alone, Krasner’s office consulted on or worked through the Immigration Counsel on:

  • 21 aggravated assault and domestic violence cases

  • 26 drug possession with intent to distribute cases

  • 12 firearm cases

  • Nine rape, indecent assault, or sexual assault on a child cases

  • Nine robbery or burglary cases

  • One vehicular homicide case

But ICE agents? Now that’s where Krasner suddenly draws the line.

Unsurprisingly, a spokesperson for the Immigration Counsel office declined to comment.

Krasner, who proudly brands himself a criminal justice “reformer,” has also made a habit of refusing cooperation with ICE altogether. Shortly after President Trump began his second term, Krasner joined other local Democrats in vowing to resist federal immigration enforcement—using rhetoric that was as inflammatory as it was revealing.

“We have an authoritarian president who’s a criminal,” Krasner said in January 2025, before accusing federal authorities of trying to make state officials do “Nazi stuff.” Classy language, predictable politics.

Krasner is part of a broader network of progressive prosecutors bankrolled by billionaire George Soros. He first won office in 2017 after Soros poured well over $1 million into a super PAC backing him in the Democratic primary. Like other Soros-funded DAs, Krasner ran on ending mass incarceration, shielding migrants from ICE, and redefining “justice” in ways that somehow always seem to benefit criminals over law-abiding citizens.

So here we are: a district attorney who spent years softening charges for illegal alien criminals now threatening federal agents tasked with enforcing the law. It’s not about justice—it’s about ideology.

The good news? Americans are paying attention. And under President Trump, the message is clear: the rule of law matters, borders matter, and protecting citizens comes first. No amount of Soros money or political theater can change that.
