In a stunning indictment of the radical left's takeover of American higher education, four historically women's colleges stand accused of betraying their founding mission, defrauding federal programs, and violating Title IX by openly admitting biological men who claim to be women. This isn't just a philosophical debate; it's a direct challenge to common sense, an affront to biological reality, and a potential misuse of millions in taxpayer dollars.
The Defense of Freedom Institute (DFI) has filed explosive complaints with the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR), asserting that Agnes Scott College, Bryn Mawr College, Stephens College, and Wesleyan College are making "substantial misrepresentations" to the public. These institutions, long heralded as bastions for women's education, now allow any male who identifies as a woman to enroll, all while clinging to their "women's only" status.
"For decades, each of these schools carefully crafted an identity as an institution exclusively dedicated to the education of women," stated Robert Eitel, President and Co-Founder of DFI. "No doubt to the shock of many alumnae, donors, and students, these schools have willingly sacrificed this unique identity on the altar of gender identity."
The complaints detail a profound breach of public trust. Students and their families, relying on the promise of a single-sex educational environment, make life-altering decisions—including taking on substantial federal student loan debt—only to find their private spaces, housing, and even athletic opportunities infiltrated by individuals of the opposite sex. This blatant disregard for the truth isn't merely disingenuous; it’s a direct violation of Title IV of the Higher Education Act and Title IX, which explicitly protects single-sex spaces.
DFI isn't just asking for an investigation; they're demanding accountability. Their letters to the OCR are crystal clear: "Place the College on clear notice that failure to comply will result in the limitation, suspension, or termination of federal funding." It's a forceful reminder that institutions benefiting from American taxpayers must adhere to federal requirements, not radical gender ideology.
The policies themselves reveal an almost comical level of doublespeak and ideological contortion. Agnes Scott, for instance, claims to admit "students who were assigned female at birth as well as those who were assigned male or female at birth who now identify as female, transgender, agender, genderfluid, or non-binary." Yet, in the same breath, the college proudly touts "trans men" (biological women identifying as men) and "trans women" (biological men identifying as women) as women, utterly abandoning any logical definition of womanhood. And for males whose legal documents betray their biological reality, the college simply encourages them to "contact the Office of Admission to discuss their self-identification." Apparently, common sense needed a permission slip.
Bryn Mawr College, while perhaps slightly less convoluted in its written policy, is no less egregious. It admits "all individuals who have identified and continue to identify as women (including cisgender and trans women), intersex individuals who do not identify as male, individuals assigned female at birth who have not taken medical or legal steps to identify as male, and individuals assigned female at birth who do not identify within the gender binary." Worse still, the institution boasts no separate intimate facilities for men and women, forcing biological females to share restrooms and dorms with males. The complaint states that "biological women must use the same intimate and living spaces as individuals of the opposite sex."
The coercion doesn't stop there. Bryn Mawr's policies appear to threaten students who dare to dissent from gender ideology. According to the complaint, expressing a desire for single-sex spaces could subject a student to "dismissal or expulsion from the College; suspension from the College; loss of campus housing or other privileges; withholding of diploma and/or transcripts; disciplinary probation; or 'other Sanctions as deemed appropriate.'" In other words, agree with the woke agenda or face the consequences.
Stephens College parrots a similar line, declaring that "The world's understanding of and definition of womanhood is changing" and that it has "expanded its definition of womanhood to include both sex and gender." Its admissions policy is a full-throated endorsement of the notion that men can become women, while also threatening students who reject this absurdity. Wesleyan College, too, warns students who might balk at being forced into intimate spaces with biological males, all while promising to "support all students regardless of changes in their gender identity and/or gender expression."
This radical shift didn't happen in a vacuum. The DFI points out that many women's schools began allowing biological males after 2014, when the Obama administration's Office for Civil Rights unilaterally "shoehorned" non-discrimination language for "transgender" students into guidance, circumventing proper regulatory rulemaking. This bureaucratic sleight of hand paved the way for the current crisis, enabling institutions like Mills College, Simmons College, Mount Holyoke, Wellesley, and others to abandon their core principles.
The erosion of truth and biological reality in these once-respected institutions is a stark reminder of the broader culture war being waged against American values. Taxpayer funds should never be used to subsidize radical ideologies that defy common sense, erase women's spaces, and threaten free speech. It's time for the Department of Education to uphold the law, protect biological women, and hold these colleges accountable for their blatant misrepresentations and the radical gender agenda they have embraced, ensuring that federal funding supports education, not ideological indoctrination.
