In yet another display of left-wing genius, a progressive activist group is putting up billboards in high-crime cities where President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard — telling military service members that this isn’t what they “signed up for” and urging them to refuse “unlawful orders.” Because nothing says “support the troops” like encouraging them to disobey their Commander-in-Chief.
The group behind this brilliant strategy is Win Without War, a self-described “diverse network of activists and national organizations” pushing for progressive foreign policy. In September, they launched a billboard campaign in Washington, D.C., and quickly expanded to Chicago, Memphis, and even outside major military bases like Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Apparently, the message wasn’t dramatic enough unless it reached both civilians and the troops they’re trying to influence.
The organization’s October press release proudly explains that both static and mobile billboards were placed across the country in response to what they call the “unprecedented deployment” of the National Guard into cities. One sign in Memphis, aimed squarely at Guardsmen there, reads: “Tennessee Army National Guard… You joined to serve your community. So what are you doing in Memphis?” Cute slogan — though maybe they could have asked that question to the criminals causing the chaos instead.
Meanwhile, tragedy struck in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday when a gunman opened fire on National Guardsmen from West Virginia near the White House, leaving them critically wounded. A horrific attack — and a stark reminder of exactly why the Guard was deployed in the first place. Reality tends to have that effect.
President Trump responded with his trademark strength and compassion, stating:
“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”
At a time when activists are busy putting up billboards encouraging defiance, the President is standing firmly with the men and women who protect this country every single day. And that’s something worth appreciating — and supporting — as the nation moves forward.
